Domain forwarding?

I recently bought a domain name from GoDaddy.com and I want to forward that domain name to an existing one. What they had me do was select nameservers that were parked and then type in the URL that the new domain was going to. This sound right? Would I have to do anything else with them or at the place where it is hosted? How long does it normally take to forward?
