I have an idea for a company. I wish to 1st purchase the domain name. I was looking at www.godaddy.com to do this as someone else recommended it. Does it truly only cost ~$9.00 to buy a name or are there going to be more tack on fees as I go thru the process of buying a domain name. Once I were to purchase my domain name, what do I do with it? Do I just basically own a blank page? What does it mean to host? I did html programming in 1 college class and used an FTP program to upload everything I did. It would update and show up in my personal website address that was given to me by my university. Now that I will have my own new domain name, how will I be able to upload my site design onto the internet for others to see? Also I see some packages include web designs and some other things for a few hundred bucks. How do those work? My site will be very complex and have many different submenu%26#039;s and whatnot. Down the road I will also be accepting credit card payments.
I need help starting a website, what does hosting mean / do? I have more questions below.?
Yahoo web site builders is great! I use Simple Payment Systems for credit cards all the software to accept credit cards is free and you can get a shopping cart also. Cheaper than PayPal too.

Other Replys:Godaddy.com is a good place to purchase you domain name. The domain name is your website address. The hosting is where your site lives. You need both.

Other Replys:I think you are doing the right thing here asking for recommendations. That is very important. I recommend HostNed Web Hosting http://www.hostned.com to people. They are always very helpful and no BS. If you have a lot of questions, go on their live help chat. You do not need to be a current customer to learn from the friendly agents there. Personally, I have been using them since I was a beginning webmaster years ago. All my friends that I have referred to HostNed have been treated right too. Give them a try.
Other Replys:The host is what you ftp your files to and it sends those files to internet users when they show up at your site. Yes that%26#039;s the real price. You can get cheaper domains at http://www.doggydomains.com though. I think they are as low as $1.99 there. I wouldn%26#039;t pay a few hundred bucks for a site design though. It will not be very good if it%26#039;s only a few hundred and you%26#039;ll just want to get it redone later.
Other Replys:Yes,it only cost you $9.00 to buy a name
