1. Webserver application ( MS IIS,Apache.....etc)
2. Put the page in the application wepage directoy( once you install the webserver appl.its easy to find)

Last August I was looking for a cheap hosting solution for a one page website, and chose these cowboys.
I have never been able to upload a single page to my alloctated domain, and each time I emailed them I was informed. %26#039;Our engineers have rectified the problem.%26#039;
In the end I just told them to get lost and used another hosting service.
But now, despite my pointing out that I could never access their services they are threatening me with debt collectors unless I pay up. It%26#039;s only a small amount, so they have added another year on for not cancelling by registered letter, although I did cancel by email, the same way I signed up.
I have a whole file of emails to them asking for help to access my domain, but never had a satisfactory reply.
I cannot believe I%26#039;m the only one to have problems with them.
Any advice appreciated.

I had an original .COM Domain with a New Delhi based Hoster .Since I was dissatisfied with his services I opened another hosting account with Go Daddy under the domain name .NET ( company name same for both .net and .com ) .
For sometime both the hosting accounts were run simultaneously and .COM was aliased to .NET in the Go Daddy account .. Google and yahoo search engines were picking up both the domains from
different servers .
Then I got the .COM transferred to Go daddy from the New Delhi hoster .
The transfer is confirmed .
Now I just want the .COM and don%26#039;t want the .NET domain .
Suppose I make the .COM the primary hosting account with Go daddy and DO NOT GIVE AN ALIAS for the .NET .Will I be penalized by the SEARCH ENGINES ?

Hi, I%26#039;m a Small business customer...its been a day and I still cant view Web hosting Control Panel. Why would that be? I tried with different browsers, different computers, and even my friend couldnt access it and he is in another city.
yesterday when I was uploading pictures to my gallery with FTP, suddenly the connection got cut off saying i had the wrong password and username combination. Then I got the error %26quot;500 Internal Server Error%26quot; when I visited the gallery and the forum of my site. I tried to access the web hosting control panel but I couldn%26#039;t. It%26#039;s been a day and I still can%26#039;t view the panel. I can view my e-mail and domain control panel but not the web hosting one.

I have a hosting account with www.spiderhosts.net that l setup over 3 years ago when they were good. I recently decided to move my domain and site away from them to another hosting company. I have tried to contact them on several occasions using all methods l could find on their site without any success.

Is the domain *name* registered with another company? If so, then start there. Set up the new host (rent space, ftp files, and of course get ip address) then address domain name pointers to new host!
Then, I would think, it would be a matter of, stop paying! I had a similar hassle. I first called, carefully got a %26quot;tracking number%26quot; or whatever the phone helper called it, then went to the effort to send an email *and* a certified/return receipt letter (identical text) confirming account cancellation AND citing the %26quot;tracking number%26quot;. Then I called my credit card company and notified them to reject any further charges from that company. Go to extremes!
The ultimate lesson here (as I all-too-late learned at www.webhostingtalk.com) is, never use the same company for domain name registration and for hosting. You may want the flexibility of changing one before you change the other!

Apply to bravenet to see if they can take on the domain names, You should receive a communication from the current holder requesting confirmation. They will probably want a transfer payment, but at least you will get things rolling. In the meantime try to get copies of your web pages stored locally, as when the domain name moves you will lose the current site.

I own a tow truck company and had a friend who does webhosting for medical billing sites make me a company site. So he does. Now he ignores my calls. This will depend on a few things. Go to www.NetSol.com and click o the WhoIs tab, do a search for your domain name.
If the contact info is reflective of your friend, he will have to transfer the domain to your management, and then you can put it on any host you want.
If it has the hosting company contact info - they were the registrants as part of the hosting deal, and they retail control of the domain.
However - you can contact the primary hosting service, explain your situation, and they may be able to give you direct control of the webspace (FTP, Control Panel), and then you can change the site content. You would probably have to take over hosting charges.

I think its 30 or 60 days. She could have transfered the domain to another host or just pointed the DNS server to her hosting package elsewhere.
For example, if you buy a domain from Yahoo, and get hosting at 1and1.com, you can point your domain%26#039;s nameserver (where it gets your website from) to NS1.1AND1.COM (or whatever it is). That%26#039;s how I have mine setup. She could be waiting awhile.
You can use whois.net to check on the status however.

I could have sworn there was a time way back in the beginning days when you could simply RESERVE / buy a domain name without having to signup through a web hosting service ... was this just my imagination?
I have a domain name that I have verified is not in use and would like to reserve / buy it before it gets snapped up ... but I am not yet ready to commit to any particular web hosting site / package ...

You can *register* a domain without actually setting up a Web site, but you will still have to purchase the rights from an official domain registrar. Back in the day, Network Solutions was *the* place to do this, but now you can register for as cheap as $6 for one year through Yahoo!, GoDaddy, or any other number of sites. Most of these sites will offer bundled package deals that give you Web hosting, email, etc., but if you don%26#039;t need that then don%26#039;t buy it.
Of course, remember that you need to re-register the domain every 3-5 years (depending on how long your contract is) or it goes back to the public domain.

You can recheck the name and simply buy ownership for one year without any hosting package. You can also do this with Godaddy.com. Although each site does provide hosting you won%26#039;t be restricted to that company when you do pick a hosting company. You will have an option to move the name to your prefered hosting company when you find it.
Purchasing a domain for the year does hold it for you, but as for reserving a domain there is such a thing called %26#039;domain parking%26#039; that does just that. I%26#039;m not sure the differance / benefits of that though since I haven%26#039;t done it personally.

I also have free hosting with bravenet.
I would now like to build a personal website.
However, I do not like bravenet%26#039;s templates, website builder, or the style of the ads.
- Is it possible to do anything about this on Bravenet (e.g. can you build a website outside Bravenet then upload, or even use a template not provided by Bravenet on its system?)
- Am I better to build my website then look around for a website host once I know what bandwidth size I need?

I would stay away from online website builders and free webhosts such as bravenet. They tend to be slow, with minimal features and they also put advertisements on your webpage! Everyone who has answered here so far has great suggestions, but please be careful when going to low cost domain name registrars! Anyone who owned a domain name through Registerfly most likely lost their domain, or had to go through lots of headache trying to get it back.
It%26#039;s worth a few bucks to stick with a company that is well respected in the industry. Network Solutions, Register.com, and GoDaddy are the way to go.
Of these 3 options, GoDaddy is probably your best bet. They have .com names at $8.95, and if you use coupon code gdm0606c (it expires end of day today, 6/15/07), you can get the same domain name signup for $6.95.
