In hosting a website how to define the homepage?

I know to create a website and now I have created a website.

However, this is the first time I am going to upload a site and make it online. I have registered a domain name and got enough webspace to host the site.

Please tell me what are the things that I need to take care when uploading and how to define the homepage when uploading the site.

If possible give me some sites for referrals.

the homepage is usually the page you name index.html unless you name a file index.php or index.asp which will be used if you index.html exists. so whatever page you want to be your homepage name that file index.xxxx
